How to Choose a Garage Door Company in Houston
By Marvin Driscoll · Garage Door Guides Editor · Updated May 2026 · 6 min read
Garage doors attract more pricing games than almost any home trade, because the customer is usually stuck, stressed and searching from a driveway. A few questions asked before anyone drives out separate the straight dealers from the bad-review factories, whoever you end up hiring.

Questions it does not answer? Call (346) 458-9100, any hour.
Insist on three things: a flat total quoted before the visit, a local address and phone that answer consistently, and itemized parts with stated warranties. Walk away from $29-service-call ads that cannot state a repair price, from pressure to replace what could be repaired, and from any number that grows once the truck is in the driveway.
The flat-price test
One question does most of the work: describe the symptom and ask what the repair will cost. A straight company can give a firm number or a tight range for the common jobs, springs, cables, rollers, openers, because it does them daily and knows its prices. An evasive answer behind a cheap trip fee is the signature of bait pricing, where a $39 visit becomes hundreds via charges invented on site.
Published ranges help you calibrate: national guides put spring jobs around $150 to $350 and general repairs roughly $150 to $600. Any quote far outside the published bands, in either direction, deserves an explanation; suspiciously cheap is its own warning.

Legitimacy you can verify in five minutes
Check that the company shows a real local address, answers its phone with its own name, and carries a consistent identity across its listings; door-scam operations hide behind rotating names and tracking numbers precisely because reviews would otherwise catch up with them. Read the one-star reviews specifically: pricing-surprise patterns repeat in them with remarkable honesty.
Insurance for a trade working overhead with wound springs is non-negotiable, and a serious outfit confirms it without flinching. Longevity in the same market under the same name is the quiet green flag the scams cannot fake.

The repair-versus-replace honesty check
The trade's most profitable dishonesty is replacing what could be repaired, so test for the opposite reflex: a company worth hiring will tell you when a $250 spring job saves a door, and will show the math when replacement genuinely wins. Ask directly, can this door be repaired instead?, and listen for an answer with reasons rather than urgency.
The same honesty shows in small print: itemized parts, named warranty terms on parts and labor, and a written total that cannot grow. We publish our process on every service page for exactly this audit; hold us to it, and hold everyone else to it too.
